LOS FLECOS - VALES POCO PARA MÍ reloaded

Los Flecos, from Madrid, was a band originally formed for counteracting "Los Brincos". They all were recognized musicians coming from other famous bands. José Barranco (singer) came from "Los Estudiantes", and Julián Sacristán (guitar and main composer) was the ancient leader of "Los Flaps". They both touched with Pablo Argote (bass), who recently leaved "Los Sonor". Julián insisted on his friend Juan Francisco Seva (rythm guitar), finally becoming a quintet. Los Flecos secretly tested their music in "La Voz de Madrid" radio auditorium (Hilarión Eslava St.- Madrid). They recorded their first EP ( "Estás Lejos / Distinta / No se lo Digas / Vales Poco Para Mí" (Vergara records, 1965), and in October 1965 they did their first act at dissapeared Hotel "Luz Palacio" (Paseo de la Castellana St.- Madrid). Cefe y Los Gigantes were one of the best sixties garage bands from Madrid, if we call garage as the meeting of beat and rhythm’n’blues done with poor scarce and youth pushing. The leader was Ceferino Feito, the oldest member, who named the band Cefe y Los Gigantes in 1963. They started playing in dancing rooms by Legazpi and Usera neighborhoods. Los Gigantes were Rodrigo Alcaráz (Roche), guitar; Gonzalo on the bass; Carlos on the rythm guitar; and Diego Velázques the singer.

LOS CANARIOS - WHAT I CAN DO FOR YOU reloaded

Los Canarios as The Canaries

In early 60s, and in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, four boys decided to form a band and start preparing test versions of the Beatles and others. They were Eduardo, Teddy, Bautista (vocals and rhythm guitar), Germain Pérez (guitar plucking), Rafael Izquierdo (bass) and José (Tato) Luzardo (drums). They soon get a name in the tourist area of the island and decide to jump into the peninsula in 1964. As Los Ídolos, they did go to Madrid, and later to Barcelona, and Seville, not emerging in none of these places. Indeed, acting at Cristina hotel of Seville, in the summer of 65, they were heard by an American tourist named Dudley Cooper, ownerof a chain of amusement parks and proposes them nothing less than a three-months tour to the USA.

Sice three of them ccould not travel by is age, Eduardo Bautista Velarde, Teddy's father, accompanies them on their American journey and gives them good money to upgrade their equipment. Renamed The Canaries in the USA, they were seven months there playing in provincial parks and some college parties, and even recorded some live demos for the RCA subsidiary label (BT Puppy Records). But the important thing is none of that, but they are in a country seething with music and musicians of extraordinary quality, which are soaked to the bone of soul music, not too well known in Europe. The demos we are talking are "Flying High With The Canaries" (BT Puppy 1970), reprinted by Crocodile Records in 1987, "Flying High With The Canaries" (Alligator, 1985).

Enjoy this exercise of soul.

MIKE RIOS - BRISTOL reloaded

Taken from Del Rock al Twist

From early 1960 till today, Mike (Miguel) Ríos, is one of the most Spanish Rock Star. I have nothing to say here, since he is well recognized by all people. As to me, I do not like Miguel style and voice. But History is the reading of the past, and the past is there, waiting to be read, but not changed. You have here a cover of "Bristol Stomp", by the Americans Doo-Wooppers The Dovells (1961).

LOS SONOR - DIAMANTES reloaded

Taken from eltocadiscos

In 1960, Carlos Guitart (bass and electric bass) returned to Madrid after completing his military service with the idea of starting a band.
He convinces his friend Joe, Jose Luis Gonzalez (piano and organ) to accompany you on this adventure. Through a radio program known Jose Antonio Otero (guitar) and a singer named Manuel Escobar. This is the first training with the Los Sonor begins to act, making versions of Everly Brothers, Dion and the Belmonts and, in general,
hits of du-dua vocal style. The quartet has no battery and copes with hired musicians and friends from other bands.

Soon Jose Antonio left the band, and was replaced by Luis Eduardo Aute (guitar, vocals), acting in the TV show "Salto a al fama". Shortly after Aute left the band as well, being replaced by Fernando Sanchez (guitar). Thanks to the influence of Discóbolo Review Editor, they got an agreement with RCA records for his first EP. How the promotion would, that they paid the black and white photo, which is then colored with colored pencils to give a bit of eye candy to the cover. The EP was 250 copies. They played in the Festival de Benidorm (Edition of 1961) with the song "Border". In late 1961 they recorded "Esa chica alborotada", the first popular success of The Sonor.

In 1962 ,Manolo Diaz will replaced Fernando on the guitar, and Los Sonor will leave their melodic style well-pitched voices to be passed to the twist, adapting well-known songs, such as "El relicario" to this new rhythm. Holed up in modern dance, on the following discs expand the repertoire to other new rhythms like the Madison, or the Hully Gully. At this time, finally, they got fixed drummer, George Matey. They are one of the most popular bands in that summer, travelling throughout Spain, and spending some time in Mallorca. The island will become a must destination for summer job in the following years.

Manolo Diaz's father works as an engineer in the Canal de Isabel II, and sends his son to Liberia with an employment in that faraway African country. Again without guitar. This time the substitute is Antonio (Tony )Martinez. With this line in 1963 recorded his last album for RCA, "Las hijas de Elena" (RCA, 1963). This song is one of the same-title film (Dir.: Mariano Ozores, 1963) starring the twins Pili and Mili.

In 1963 The Sonor change record company and joined Philips, radically changing their style to an instrumental band, achieving remarkable success with classic surf and instrumental rock such as "Barracuda", or "Diamantes". In 1964 Manuel Escobar disbanded and start a solo career, as also did the organist Joe Gonzalez, wEnlaceho will be replaced by Manolo Fernandez. Despite the departure of two group's founders in that year, 1964, the best year of the band, with two big instrumental hits, such as "Campanilleros" and "Los cuatro muleros", covered by Los Pekenikes with better success than Los Sonor. That same year, they made a tour in France. After their back to Spain, they combine their career with the role of backing band with Miguel Rios, and participating in the movie "Abajo espera la muerte" (Death Waits Below) (Juan de Orduna, 1964).

1965 was entirely in Mallorca, and Carlos Guitart, soul of the group, will leave to start a new musical adventure. The same is going to George, the drummer. In late 1965 the two founder members, Tony Martinez and Manolo Gonzalez, meet in Madrid with some members of Mike and the Runaways, and, since they had nothing better to do, they decide to finalize Los Sonor, and found a new band, which months later would be named on a radio show like Los Bravos.

LAS SEVENTIES - YOU´RE THE ONE THAT I WANT reloaded

Lola and Blanca, or Las Seventies, sponsored by Los Morancos, launched in 2007 a LP with ten songs of the 70s, retouched with flamenco. Cutrelux and Guarripop style, flamenco-pop, with no more target that become the summer-song. As to me, I hate this exercises of anticultural development. But, at least, we can not see that as the current way of the sixties spanish versions.

ANNA AND THE SPECTORS - UPS TO YOU reloaded

Anna and The Spectors is a pop girl band from mid-90s. They were labelled as "lovers of sugary", and "femme-voxed cuddly pop", such as My Little Airport, Papa Topo, et.al.), by Elefant Records. Ja! Ja! Ja!.
I would like have had a Master like the one who wrote this words. He talk about "Cuddly-pop", "bubblegum-punk", and "swinging ’60s cinematic confections", among others labels. Since I have not yet read a book, or fanzine, explaining the simmilitudes and differences among all labels, I can not talk about it. But they did not read it as well!

Anyway, this is a good song. Enjoy!
