La Compañía was a Spanish band, influenced by Spanish folk songs and Spanish traditional music. La Compañía was created by productor Rafael Pérez Botija for the introduction in the market of a band performing "Zarzuela" (Spanish opera genre) with mod rythms. It is how La Compañía had, among their members, musicians coming from others bands, such as Los Pasos, Los Sonor, or Aguaviva, till complete eight singers. In 1971 they launched their first single, El soldadito, pop version from a piece of zarzuela "Luisa Fernanda", that peaked to the top in few weeks.
